On our way to Zouérate our train was put onto a dead-end railway siding (in the foreground) to give way to a mineral train pulled by GM CC 113 and CC 114 (both built in 1993) on its way from Zouérate to Nouadhibou, most likely the heaviest (20,000 tonnes) and longest (3 kilometers) train of the world. Normally, per day three full mineral trains go from the mines to Nouadhibou (this takes 18 hours) and three empty mineral trains return (this takes 14 hours).
