Lemon Tree Passage

We really advise you to go here!
Lemon Tree Passage is a small town on Port Stephens peninsula, about an hour drive north of Newcastle, NSW. In the local shopping area you can book an "Aboriginal & Koala tour" at a small shop selling all kinds of art. We did book an afternoon trip (14:00) and our guide was named Graham. He told about Aboriginal life, the groceries around us in the bush that Aboriginals eat, about animals and of course we tried to spot wild koalas.
During the trip we saw 3 adult koalas and a joey. Later that day, we walked through the bush on our own. The Port Stephens area is an area where wildlife and civilisation are very close to each other. Imagine having a koala in the tree next to your house! It is possible there.
In the area there are quite a number of koala warning signs. Take them seriously and find the areas that are surrounded by the signs and find that koala! The trees are fairly high in this area, so success is not always guaranteed... The area is flat, so walking onto a hill will not help you to come eye to eye with a koala. Nevertheless, we did spot quite a number of koalas in that area, even next to the seaside, and it really was worthwhile!
